“Oh, Christmas isn’t just a day. It’s a frame of mind.” Obviously, no one said this recently – it comes from the 1947 movie Miracle on 34th Street, spoken by Santa Claus. Because many of us are trying to stay in the Christmas frame of mind and NOT go back to work just yet, I offer you some old Maverick Updates to consider before we start a whole new year
- January 31, 2025: Stranger Than Fiction was the best movie to illustrate what was happening during RFK Jr.’s HHS Secretary confirmation hearing.
- February 7, 2025: My Cousin Vinny, and its first-time-in-court lawyer who needs help, helped explain what the new team at the White House Office of Technology Policy was doing with its request for input on the new AI Action Plan.
- February 28, 2025: The Replacements, a movie about a Washington D.C. football team made up of “scabs” that replaced the regular stars, was my way of describing what was happening with the new “DOGE” office.
- March 14, 2025: Oprah Winfrey and her movie productions came to mind after The Wall Street Journal ran a story titled “Dr. Oz is About to Take Over Medicare; Expect a Show.”
- March 21, 2025: Dave, a movie about a man who pretended to be the President, was what I referred to when describing the firing of the FTC Commissioners – a decision now under review by the U.S. Supreme Court.
- April 4, 2025: Crazy Rich Asians was a weirdly appropriate film to describe the dramatic tariff policies that are still causing repercussions on the economy now.
And that was just Q1 2025. It will be interesting to see what happens in Q1 2026. In the meantime, the Maverick Team wishes you less news and more rest until we all get this party started again. Please join us on January 21, 2026, for our webinar to catch up – fast and free.
